Vehicle ‘too hot to handle’
PA Auckland A station waggon, stolen from Ponsonby on Wednesday evening, was obviously too hot to handle. The 1981 four-wheel-drive vehicle, owned by Auckland’s deputy police chief, Deputy Assistant Commissioner E. G. Perry, was found by a police patrol undamaged in Herne Bay about 12 hours after it was stolen. Mr Perry confirmed that the vehicle had been found. He was reluctant to discuss the theft, but said that the vehicle had been locked and the keys not left in the ignition.
