Live sheep move likely
PA Palmerston North A move towards exporting live sheep to Saudi Arabia is in the pipeline, according to the chairman of the Meat Board, Mr Adam Begg. Mr Begg told a public meeting in Feilding on Tuesday evening that the issue had been taken up with the Government. He had been asked at the meeting if there had been any progress on the question of exporting livestock. The visiting Saudi Arabian Agriculture Minister, Dr Abdul Rahman Abdul Aziz Al Sheikh, has said his country wants to buy a number of young male sheep from New Zealand. Mr Begg said, “The difficulty is that the previous Minister of Agriculture made an agreement with the unions that live export should not be allowed.”
