NZPA-Reuter Monte Carlo Chris Lewis, of New Zealand, defeated by John McEnroe in last year’s Wimbledon final, was beaten 6-4, 7-5, by Uruguay’s Diego Perez, in the first round of the Monte Carlo Open tennis tournament yesterday. Perez had to qualify to get into the main field of

the tournament. The top seed, Ivan Lendl, of Czechoslovakia, started slowly but soon overwhelmed the French No. 2, Henri Leconte. 6-4, 60. Lendl, ranked second in the world, trailed, 1-4, in the first set but then reeled off 11 games in a row to secure his second round place.
