Zansark shows up at trials

Zansark, a shade disappointing in recent weeks, showed that he could be an upset chance in the Courier Systems Stakes at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday when he was successful at the Addington trials yesterday. Zansark was about fifth for most of the way and he came on better than any of the others to win by half a length after recording a slowish 3min 33.4 s for the 2600 m, the last 400 m in 32.25. The second last 400 m section was covered in 28s, with the horses having to race into the teeth of a strong northerly wind over the last 300 m. Jester Chance went fairly for second, shading Dreamy Judge, with Duplex Hanover next, clear of Kind Nature, which started 6om. Kind.

sprinted up from the 900 m, but dropped away in the straight. Corrigan, now being trained by Bill McDonald at Kaiapoi, finished strongly to beat La Warah by a head in the event for C2 pacers. He returned 3min 28s for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in Imin 1.95, and the final 400 m in 32.35. Corrigan might not be long showing form. Rapid Fella finished boldly from a good way back for third, a nose from La Warah. He was not pushed over the final piece and looks ready for a big run in the 100 Pipers Handicap on Saturday. Star Spangled was handy throughout and finished a close fourth, ahead of Isotronic and Ballochmyle. • Maddigan did best in the race for two-year-olds, winning by a length from Motu

Jodie, with Westburn King making ground for third a nose back, well clear of In Control. The winner took 2min 49.8 s for the 2000 m, the last 800 m in Imin 2.85, and the final 400 m in 33.45. Zebec showed his fitness for the Moffat Appliances Handicap on Saturday when he held out a determined late challenge from Ranger Globe in the main race for trotters. He recorded 3min 37.1 s for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in Imin 2.2 s and the final 400 m in 31.75. Ranger Globe is on the comeback trail, with the Rowe Cup at Alexandra Park next month as his main mission. Lomotta, Ruby Rum, Happy Rose, New Game, Royal Lane and Ann Lobell were successful in the slowclass
