Mt Vernon ceremony
The chairman of the Christchurch Civic Trust, Mr Graeme Robertson, right, and Sir Ronald Scott, a patron of the Mount Vernon appeal, at a flag-raising ceremony on the Port Hills yesterday afternoon. The flags are to identify the boundary of the proposed Mount Vernon Park, which was a part of Bowenvale Farm. The trust launched a public appeal last week to raise the $380,000 needed to buy the Mount Vernon block. At left are two of Canterbury’s Olympic prospects, Peter Renner and Mary O’Connor. A training course for athletes is included in proposals for the new park.
