Fans’ pitched battle

NZPA Highbury Everton and Southampton soccer fans fought on the pitch after Saturday’s Highbury F.A. Cup semi-final. Mounted police moved in to clear the fans, who clashed for more than five minutes. There were a number of arrests. Everton had snatched a 10 victory three minutes from the end of extra time. Everton’s manager, Howard Kendall, said: Y ‘The first invasion was just a celebration with nothing harmful meant. “I didn’t see the later incidents, but if they were as bad as I am told, I am sorry, because Merseyside fans have won a great reputation for sportsmanship recently.” \
