Jahangir again

NZPA-AFP London Just like everybody else, Qamar Zaman failed in his bid to become the first man in three years to beat his fellow Pakistani, Jahangir Khan.

The luckless Qamar, who got another shot at the British Open squash title at the age of 32, was soundly beaten 9-0, 9-3, 9-5, in the men’s singles final at Wembley by the remarkable Jahangir who was, once again, playing in a class of his own.

Jahanghir, who is still only 20, had one of his

easiest wins of the tournament to take the title for the third time in as many years and with it the £4OOO first prize. He has not lost a single match since conceding the 1981 British Open final to the Australian, Geoff Hunt. Zaman, who was attempting the near impossible, won the British Open in 1974 but has since been forced to play in the shadow first of the relentless Geoff Hunt and then of Jahangir, who is reputed to be earning more than £lOO,OOO a year in prize money and endorsements.
