Avondale may see Mighty Louis extend record
Special correspondent Auckland Mighty Louis has built up a good record which he will very likely extend in the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Avondale today.
If Mighty Louis is successful it will be his third win in a row, following one at Avondale over 2200 m, the course he will run today in the Auckland District Handicap, and a 1600 m, also at Avondale. In his two most recent attempts before his bracket of wins Mighty Louis finished second each time. He could not have done much better these last couple of
months. His latest performance, on March 20, was specially impressive because he went to the front well before the finish then stayed on bravely. From the 50kg he carried last time Mighty Louis is up skg for the Auckland Districts Handicap. The opposition, though, seems hardly strong taken all round. The hardest to beat could be
Goodies, King Khan, and Silver Flier. From near last into the final 800 m, Goodies was impressive winning 2000 m at Ellerslie last week. She is a big, five-year-old mare, all the better for the time that has been taken with her. The second leg, the Waikato District Handicap, seems much more open with Hey Presto, Bandelier, Girl Talk, and Quibble all possi-
bilities, and Spectacular Night, in his first race after a spell, another to consider. Hey Presto finished unplaced at Tauranga last Saturday but his form, up until then, was hard to fault. Quibble was an impressive Tauranga winner. Bandelier is going for a hat-trick and Girl Talk gives the impression she could win again at any time.
