Visit to E.E.C. likely
PA Wellington The Minister of Overseas Trade, Mr Cooper, said last evening that there was a distinct possibility he would have to make a “very rapid” visit to the 10 E.E.C. capitals. Mr Cooper is standing by to travel to Europe to push for continued access for butter exports to Britain. E.E.C. Foreign Ministers are meeting this week and may decide to pass the question to a meeting of E.E.C. Agricultural Minis-
ters in May. If that happened, Mr Cooper would probably leave for Europe to argue New Zealand’s case, said a spokesman for his office. The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, said on Monday that he thought Mr Cooper would probably have to make the trip, but the decision would be made at short notice. The E.E.C.’s Agriculture Council decided last month on a two-month rollover for butter exports.
