Art awards announced
PA Wellington The 1984 IBM Art Awards have been won by Elizabeth Kay of Wellington and Ted Kindleysides of North Auckland, says the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts. The awards, each worth ?750, were presented at a reception at the academy by the managing director of IBM New Zealand, Mr Basil Logan. Ms Kay has exhibited widely in New Zealand, and in 1969 she won the Watercolour Award in the Hutt Art Society annual exhibition.
Her work is represented in many collections in this country and overseas. Mr Kindleysides works in many mediums, including painting, sculpture and pottery. In 1966 he received the Foulds Memorial Prize, in 1968 the Hamilton Centenary Exhibition Prize, and in 1979 both the first prize, Manawatu Prize Contemporary Art, and the third prize in the Rotorua Art Award. Work of both artists is included in the “Townscape” exhibition at the Academy until April 29.
