Policeman for trial

PA Gisborne A Wairoa police constable was committed for trial when he appeared in the District Court at Gisborne yesterday on two charges of assault. Peter Marshall Wilson, aged 31, was charged with assaulting Allan Gregory Edwards and Daniel Morgan Hodgson near Wairoa on March 9.

The complainants had crashed the motor-cycle they were riding after being pursued by traffic officers. During the arrest, Wilson was alleged to have kicked one man being held by a traffic officer, then pursued another whom he punched repeatedly, threw on the ground, and kicked. Wilson will be tried on May 28.
