Sydney rugby league
Canterbury-Bankstown, the only unbeaten side before the fourth round of the Sydney rugby league premiership on Wednesday evening, was beaten, 17-8, by St George. The former Kiwi centre, Olsen Filipaina, scored a try and two goals in Balmain’s 20-12 win over Eastern Suburbs in the other match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The absence of Newtown, a club which will re-enter as Newtown-Campbelltown in 1985, has caused a bye. Teams with the bye are awarded two points, which has contributed
to seven teams sharing the lead. Wednesday night results: Parramatta 14, CronullaSutherland 6; North Sydney 16, Western Suburbs 8; Balmain 20, Eastern Suburbs 12; lllawarra 10, Penrith 6; Canberra 29, South Sydney 4; St George 17, Canterbury-Banks-town 8.
