Patch burnt but stable

PA Wellington Patch is a remarkable dog, according to a Karori veterinarian, Mr Bryan Gartrell. The six-year-old bitser, which survived the bomb blast at Wellington Trades Hall that killed his master, Mr Ernest Abbott, suffered bad burns.

But according to Mr Gartrell, Patch has not put up a fuss or snapped back at his helpers. Considering what he had been through Patch had shown a lovely nature, Mr Gartrell said. He described Patch’s condition last evening as stable.

Patch suffered seconddegree burns to the face in the blast. The corneas of the eyes were also burnt, but according to Mr Gartrell. the dog’s sight has not been badly affected.
