Prize for top doctor

Dr lan Kennedy, a firstyear house surgeon at Burwood Hospital, has been awarded this year’s Ardagh Memorial Prize. The prize is awarded each year to the most advanced student in the final year of training at the Christchurch Clinical School of Medicine. The award is made not only for academic prowess but for ability in wards, approach to patients, and allround capability as a doctor. It is sponsored by the Canterbury Park Trotting

Board in memory of Brigadier P. A. Ardagh and of his son, Dr J. W. Ardagh, who died last year. Both were distinguished New Zealand doctors and soldiers. The chairman of the Canterbury Hospital Board, Mr T. C. Grigg, said yesterday that Dr Kennedy had “quite a remarkable academic record.” He had been the youngest student in his class at the Clinical School but had achieved distinguished passes in each year of his studies.
