London office for Wool Board

PA Wellington The Wool Board has announced some internal restructuring as a result of a report by an independent management consultant, Mr John Vandersyp. A London office, headed by the board’s deputy managing director, Mr Noel Thomas, as regional director for Europe, will be opened. The move was prompted by the board’s concern that consuming countries, particularly in Europe, should be kept informed of the processing capabilities of New Zealand wool.

The board has been regrouped into three main sections.

The Industry services section will do market development, information and public relations, and handles wool in its raw state,

formerly a function of the grower services division. Planning and economics, commercial and transport and shipping will be done by a new section, planning and wool operations. Administration will form the third section. The general manager of industry services will be Mr Roger Buchanan. Dr Grant Sinclair will be general manager of planning and wool operations. Both men will report to the managing director, Mr Hugh Peirse, as will the group manager of administration, Mr Colin Mallard.

The board’s secretary, Mr Graham Drees, will retire after 21 years in the post. Mr John Grainger will become the group manager of market development, and Mr David Beggs, now the economics manager, will become the group manager of planning and economics.
