Policy of E.E.C. no help, says P.M.
PA Wellington New Zealand trade would probably benefit from any collapse of the European Economic Community’s common agricultural policy, the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, said in an interview published yesterday in the “Dominion.” However, Sir Robert, who in the past has speculated about the possibility of the policy crashing under the weight of its enormous cost, emphasised that he did not expect a collapse. There were enough countries in the Community which believed they could not do without the policy to mount a rescue operation, he said.
As for New Zealand’s position in the event of a collapse, Sir Robert said: “It would not worry me if the whole thing collapsed. There would be some immediate difficulties, but the policy certainly does not do us any good.”
