Atkinson, Reid suspended
Two apprentices were suspended and one rider fined for. careless riding by the Hororata Racing Club’s judicial committee at Riccarton yesterday. Paul Atkinson, the rider of Tiger Beau, the winner of the Lion Brown Stewards Plate, was suspended up to and including March 31, two effective riding days, for allowing his mount to shift inwards when being ridden with the whip and come in contact with Sound Note (Chris Johnson), which finished second.
Sharon Reid, the rider of Silver Print in the Amalgamated Packaging Handicap, was suspended up to and including March 26, one effective riding day, for allowing her mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear and cause Sukerbelle (All Robinson) to be checked and lose a length about 250 m from the finish. Ray Hewinson, the rider of Silver Gale in the AIC International Highweight was fined $5O for careless riding. His mount shifted ground inwards and momentarily crowded Paddy Beaufort (Danny Frye) and Valigma (John Dowling) shortly after passing the false rail in the home straight.
