Touch football assn formed

The Canterbury Touch Association, a parent body for the new and rapidlydeveloping summer sport of touch football, was formed this week.

The founding clubs were Marist and North Hagley, both of which ran extensive competitions during the summer. A number of new clubs, catering for both hien’s and women’s teams, are expected to join the association next season. At the start of the season which has just ended Marist and North Hagley were catering for 40 teams. At the finish they had more

than 100.

The association, which follows Auckland as the second provincial touch organisation to be established in New Zealand, has as its first task the compilation and adoption of a full set of rules. After that will follow coaching clinics for referees. Officers elected at the inaugural meeting were.— President, Michael Rattray; vice-president, Neil Blanchfield; secretary-treasurer, Charles Sumner; committee, Lindsay Mclntyre, Pat Doig, Richard Falloon and Nigel Georgieff.
