Plane’s hijacker sets puzzle
NZPA-Reuter Taipei A Hong Kong resident who hijacked a British jet to Taipei described himself as a fervent anti-Communist who did not want to live in Hong Kong under Peking’s rule, a British Airways official said yesterday. Liang Wei Cheung, aged 28, forced the captain of the Peking-bound British Airways Boeing 747 to Taipei, even though he carried a valid British passport, a travel document issued by Peking and an entry visa for Taiwan. Officials of the Taiwanese Bureau of Investigation said they were still questioning Liang to see why he did not buy an air ticket and fly to Taiwan like everyone else.
