Rangiora plans for June
Horses and horsemen will not have to contend with conditions approaching those at the Cheviot meeting on Saturday when the Rangiora Trotting Club holds its winter meeting on June 9.
The Rangiora club’s committee has decided to hold the meeting on the inside all-weather track, with the programme including a large number of events with a mobile start. Close to 40mm of rain fell on Friday night, adding to the problems created by some 100 mm earlier in the week. The track was loose and sloppy, with much surface water early in the day, particularly at the straight entrance.
. Further heavy showers early in the day ensured that there was no chance of the track recovering. In the circumstances the club had to be more than satisfied with the on-course totalisator turnover of $190,262, down only $50,948 over the previous year when the meeting was held at Addington. A heavy list of late scratchings because of the conditions affected the T.A.B. total of $361,344, which was still up by $29,158 over 1983.
