$500,000 jackpot at Paeroa

PA Paeroa A seven-race jackpot worth $500,000 will be the highlight of the Paeroa Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. The club secretary, Mr Calvin Russek, said yesterday the club committee was “elated” that it was able to stage what would be the largest jackpot of its type in New Zealand. Entry to the course and the jackpot will be free, and to win a punter would have to select the winners of the first seven races on the 10race programme. There will be 100,000 entry forms available at the course turnstiles with a limit of 10 forms per patron. All forms must be filled in before the first race and any successful ticket holders must be on the course 30 minutes after the seventh race. “We are governed by the Gaming Act as to the availability of the entry forms and this means none are to be handed out on the course,” said Mr Russek. To ensure that punters had not made more than 10 entries, a check of all entry forms would be made before declaring any winner. Already there had been most encouraging interest shown, said Mr Russek, and to meet the demand of an expected large crowd the course gates will open at 8 a.m., just over three hours before the first race at 11.20 a.m.
