T.A.B. robbed
Two robbers wearing crash helmets, one with a firearm, held up the St Albans T.A.B. in Edgeware Village about 7.50 p.m. yesterday. One robber leaped behind the T.A.B. counter and took about $5OO in front of seven shocked patrons. No-one was hurt in the incident.
The Christchurch police still sought the two robbers late last evening. The police were interviewing the patrons to try to gain further information about the incident and the robbers’
appearance. Detective Inspector Jim Millar said that the robbers left the scene on a motorcycle. They turned left from the Edgeware Village carpark into Sherborne Street and were almost in collision with another motor-cycle at the intersection of that street and Edgeware Road. Anyone who saw this
near-collision is asked to get in touch with the Christchurch C. 1.8. A woman working in a shop near the T.A.B. said she heard a “big motorbike” in the car-park about
the time of the robbery. “I was serving a customer and I looked out and this man (the motor-cyclist) nearly hit a car,” said the woman, who did not want to be named. " 1 “ She was not sure whether there were one or two persons on the motor-cycle. One wore a helmet. “A customer came in and said the T.A.B. had just been robbed. He was really upset,” said the woman. “I thought it was just a joke. It must have given him a real fright.” “I hope they catch them.”
