Street theft foiled
PA Auckland Two men were arrested yesterday after a bagsnatch in Karangahape Road was foiled by members of the public. The police said that a department store employee was delivering more than $17,000 of her firm’s takings to the bank when grabbed from behind. Her assailant, dressed in a courier uniform, made off with the bag containing the cash, belonging to George Court and Sons, Ltd. Passers-by who saw the theft and heard the woman screaming gave chase. A police spokesman said that about eight people “tracked” the man to a car. They held him and the driver until the police arrived. The bag and money were recovered. Two men will appear in the District Court at Auckland today in connection with the incident.
