Helicopter flights from beach

Sir, — It has been reported that an area of beach will be “restricted” during the helicopter flights at New Brighton. If this is so, could Cr J. F. Burn please explain how this ruling is going to be enforced, and whether he was aware of this when he gave permission for the flights to proceed. — Yours, etc., D. HEWISON. January 23, 1984. [Mr J. H. Gray, the Christchurch City Council’s general manager and Town Clerk, replies: “No restrictions have been placed on the use of the beach by the public during the helicopter flights. The only restrictions relating to the helicopter service are those embodied in the conditions laid down by the Civil Aviation Division for compliance by the operators of the service.”]
