Third request for details

PA Hamilton The Hamilton Education Board will make a third request to the District Court at Auckland for information about a Hamilton schoolteacher still teaching after conviction on a charge of behaving in an offensive manner.

The renewed approach is prompted by a statement by the Minister of Justice, Mr McLay, that there is a way open for the board to get information about the case, in spite of the suppression of name granted in the Auckland court by Judge Maclean.

Mr McLay told a “Waikato Times” reporter that the board could apply to the Court Registrar for a copy of records under the Summary Proceedings Act, 1957, emphasising its interest in the case.

The board’s general manager, Mr Trevor Loomb, said the board had outlined its concern about the nature of the offence and had sought informatin from the registrar of the District Court at Auckland in January, but was informed that the Judge would be away until February 3.
