Dianne Rodger qualifies

PA Wellington Waikato’s Dianne Rodger became the fourth New Zealand athlete in a week to qualify for the Los Angeles Olympics when she ran under the 3000 m target time in Hamilton last night. Rodger, in a special attempt at Hamilton’s Porritt Stadium, ran Bmin 53.5 s — three seconds under the standard set by the Amateur Athletic Association. Her previous best for the season was Bmin 58.95. Rodger was fourth in both

the 1500 m and 3000 m at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games and ran the 8001500 m double at the Montreal Oljnnpics. She will also captain the women’s cross-country team in the world championships at Meadowlands, New Jersey, this month. The other three New Zealanders to have qualified over the last seven days are Tony Rogers and Peter O’Donoghue (both 1500 m) and Glenys Quick (marathon).
