Women’s films on for festival
Films made by women about the lives of British women are being screened by the Christchurch Film Society during the Christchurch Arts Festival. The low cost of admission ($1) reflects the offer made by the British Film Institute to the Film Society. The five British Film Institute films showing include: RIDDLES OF THE SPHINX — the exploration of motherhood in a patriar-
chal society, given that patriarchy has relegated childrearing to a non-status occupation, and that women remain dispossessed individuals in a largely alien culture. Tuesday, March 13. ANIMATION FOR ACTION — “animation and live action combined in an inexhaustibly bright and funny collage, playing around feminist themes in its portrait of a modern Everywoman and her preplexed confrontation with
the everyday crises and choices of life.” Wednesday, March 14. DOLLS EYE — three women in Maggie Thatcher’s Britain looking for answers as to who controls their lives. Also, TRAVELLER - an Irish film that combines youthful tinkers, smuggling and “The Troubles.” Friday, March 16. All films are being shown at the Museum Lecture Theatre, at 7.30 p.m.
