Soccer squad named
PA Auckland The national soccer coach, Allan Jones, has discarded the Mt Wellington defender, Ron Armstrong, in naming a 22man squad from which a team will be chosen to play Malaysia in New Zealand and, later, Olympic qualifying games in Singapore. Jones said last evening however that the door is still open for Armstrong and others to force their way into the squad later in the year. The squad is: Barry Pickering (Miramar), Frank van Hattum (Papatoetoe), Rudi Feitsma (Manurewa), Adrian Elrick (North Shore), Ricky Herbert (University), Ceri Evans (Christchurch United),
Allan Boath (Christchurch United), Glen Adam (University), David Burgess (Miramar), Keith Garland (Manurewa), Steve Sumner (Manurewa), Duncan Cole (North Shore), Keith Mackay (Manurewa), Mike Groom (Manurewa), Peter Henry (University), Peter Simonsen (Gisborne), Ken Cresswell (Gisborne), Billy McClure (Papatoetoe), Steve Wooddin (Christchurch), Fred de Jong (Mt Wellington), Grant Turner (Gisborne) and Colin Tuaa (Papatoetoe). He said that before the squad is called into camp on March 26 to prepare for the first game against Malaysia four players will drop out.
