Protection for jockey

NZPA Hong Kong A two-times Malaysian champion jockey, Alwyn Tweedie, a New Zealander, is under police protection after being shot at on Friday. He was shot at three times by a gunman as he was driving to trackwork early on Friday morning in Penang, Malaysia.

Reports said one of the shots hit the front passenger door of his car but the other two went wild and Tweedie was not hurt. Tweedie was Malaysia’s champion jockey in 1981 and again last year when he rode 59 winners. The police said they had not determined a motive for the shooting.
