The Christchurch Festival floral parade

The Christchurch Festival is in full swing. Even the weather, fickle during the recognised summer months, is being kinder to the city in autumn. The floral parade last Saturday gave a brilliant tone to the opening. Bright colours, music, and gaiety entertained a large crowd and whetted appetites for the exciting and entertaining events to come. A lovely, sunny day, with a temperature of 23 degrees, attracted a crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 people to the parade. Several of the floats on Saturday were loaded with extra blooms that were thrown to the crowd lining the city streets. Among the highlights of the festival are three international acts. The Coldstream Guards (Britain), Molissa Fenley (United States),* and the Actors Touring Company (Britain). The Christchurch Festival will continue for three weeks, until March 18. On this page “The Press” presents a sampling of the colour and gaiety of the festival floral parade, as captured by the newspaper’s chief photographer, DES WOODS.
