Luke returns to work
PA Auckland The police dog, Luke, shot by a gunman last October, will be back at work today. The German shepherd, shot at close range in the left front leg, has been nursed back to health by his handler, Constable J. R. Donald, and his family. ■ Constable Donald said last evening that Luke was ready to return to work. “If a job comes up he will be doing it,” he said. Luke’s training, which includes swimming four times a day, will continue. “The biggest problem at the moment is building up muscles in his shoulder," said Constable Donald. Luke’s recovery had been a seven-day-a-week job. “It has made tremendous inroads into our family life. For the last four months he has been the No. 1 member of the family,” Constable Donald said.
