French nuclear claim denied
NZPA-AAP Adelaide The Australian Labour Party has denied a claim by the French External Relations Minister, Mr Claude Cheysson, that underground nuclear testing at Mururoa Atoll does not seriously worry the Australian Government.
The A.L.P.’s opposition to the French nuclear tests had been made known to France at the highest levels, the A.L.P. International Committee and Foreign Affairs and Defence committee chairman, Mr Chris Schacht, said in Adelaide yesterday. He said the French Government appeared willing to misinterpret the ALP’s position for domestic reasons.
