Women’s softball title
PA Auckland Counties came from behind to beat Hutt Valley, 6-5. in the final of the women’s national under-21 softball championship at Papakura yesterday. With strong home town support at Prince Edward Park, Counties scored five runs at the bottom of the fourth innings to take the title. Hutt Valley had scored an upset 2-1 win over Wellington in one semi-final. In the other semi-final, Counties beat Auckland by a similar score.
Results.— Final: Counties 6, Hutt Valley 5. Minor position play-offs: Auckland 8. Wellington 6; Hawke's Bay 8, Canterbury 7; Nelson 7, Poverty Bay 3; Southland 8, Bay of Islands 0; Bay of Plenty 13, Taranaki 6. Final places: Counties 1, Hutt Valley 2, Auckland 3. Wellington 4, Hawke’s Bay 5. Canterbury 6, Nelson 7, Poverty Bay 8, North Shore 9, Southland 10, Bay of Islands 11, Bay of Plenty 12, Taranaki 13.
