A.I.D.S. man allowed out
PA New Plymouth An A.I.D.S. patient, aged 30, being treated at Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth, has been allowed to visit his family outside the hospital. The hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr Peter Matthews, said that the man had been allowed to visit his home on one occasion for two or three hours. His family had been briefed on the care necessary for him to visit. “There is no special care
apart from relatively simple hygiene measures," Dr Matthews said. "If they take the care we have advised, no-one is at risk." The Acting Medical Officer of Health for the region was advised of the patient’s intention to visit home. Dr Matthews said the man had improved marginally since his admission to the hospital two weeks ago. “Bearing in mind that he has a serious disease, he is in a satisfactory condition,” he said.
