Women’s bowls titles
PA Wellington Althea Triggs, of Riccarton, celebrated her birthday in fine style at the Bell Tea national women’s bowling tournament in Lower Hutt yesterday, winning a place in the singles quarter-finals by beating Gayle Murray (Tawa Services) 21-6. Triggs won the national singles in 1975 and the pairs in 1979, and her performances at these nationals must enhance her chances of selection in the
team for the 1985 world bowls. Results (players in the circulation area of “The Press”). E. Williams (Linwood) beat N. Campi (Kama) 18-15; J. Cooper (Bucklands Beach) beat B. Laird (Marlborough R.S.A.) 19-13; A. McDonald (Burwood) beat V. Bindon (Rocky Nook) 15-10; Triggs beat B. Fitzgerald (Hokowhitu) 20-15; A. Murray (Manawatu) beat L. Kimber (Linwood) 20-17. Fifth round: Triggs beat Murray 21-6.
