Uaion issues policy

PA Wellington Post Office workers have been told to refuse to work with non-union members and to take “non-violent measures” to encourage people to remain in the union. The instruction came from the Post Office Union’s national executive which has been meeting in Wellington since Sunday. The executive also warns that workers who leave the union, or new workers who refuse to join it, will have their names “suitably publicised.” The instructions and warnings have been issued in a circular to section and sub-section secretaries in all branches in the name of the union’s general secretary, Mr Ron Burgess. The executive said it would support any member who took non-violent action against non-members, “in accordance with union policy.” However, the instructions said no action should be taken until union officials

had counselled the resigning member or new recruit on the benefits of membership. Mr Burgess said last evening that 22 workers had resigned so far from a national membership of 39,000.
