Ecological block bought
Wellington reporter The ecologically important Aislabie block of native forest just north of Rotorua has been bought by the Forest Service for eventual addition to neighbouring ecological reserves.
Aislabie covers 380 ha, some of which has been
already cleared and converted to pines. It contains the densest known population of the rare and endangered kokako (blue-wat-tled crow). Aislabie has long been sought by the Wildlife Service and the Joint Campaign on Native Forests for reservation.
