A satiric comedy about a young couple from Manhatten who find that their plans for a dream house in the country soon turn into a nightmare. A documentary about the career of virtuoso cellist Jaqueline Du Pre and her affinity with the Elgar Cello Concerto, which she plays with the New Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim. 3.05: CIVILISATION. Light has obsessed all the great exponents of civilisation from Dante to Goethe. In the 17th century the invention of the lens was giving it a new range and power. (Repeat) 3.55: A TALE OF TWO CITIES. Lucie and Darney are married in London while the Bastille is stormed in Paris. Meanwhile Defarge discovers a written denunciation of the Evremonde family in one of the prison cells. (Repeat) 4.40: THE BOY WHO TURNED OFF. Autism is a brain disorder in which the victim withdraws into his or her own world completely. This film, made by the brother of Michael Kurnarsky, autistic since the age of three, shows the effects of autism not only on the victim but also on those around him. 5.05: SPORTS SPECIAL. Tennis: The grand prix final between two of the world’s top tennis players, Ivan Lendl and John McEnroe, live from Stanley Street in Auckland. 5.55: NEWS. 6.00: SPORTS SPECIAL. Tennis continues.

Her domineering father drove her suitors away when she was young, but after his death she submits to a man “beneath her station” — a Yankee labourer. Starring Anjelica Huston, John Carradine and John Randolph. 10.55: NEWS. 11.00: CLOSEDOWN.
8.00: SUNDAY MOVIE. “The Sailors Return.” (1977). A British sea captain returns to the west country in 1858 with a bride and a young son. When he buys an inn, deciding to stay, the villagers become hostile, because his wife is a stately African princess. Starring Tom Bell, Shope Shodeinde, Mike Ford and Paola Dionisotti. 9.45: HOLDING THE FORT. Russell directs his energies toward the writing of a novel; and Penny has a bad attack of nerves on the day she is to hear whether she has been promoted. 10.10: THE SUNDAY HORRORS. The Amityville Horror (1979). A horror story purported to be based on fact about a family who were driven from their dream home in Long Island terrified by ghosts and spirits. Starring Margot Kidder, James Brolin and Rod Steiger. 12.00: CLOSEDOWN.
