Italian consul in Chch
Mrs Valerie Mayer, of Bryndwr, has been appointed . honorary Italian consul in Christchurch.
Mrs Mayer heard of her appointment from the Italian Embassy in Wellington on Wednesday and plans to visit Wellington next week to find out more about her new duties.
The post was a voluntary one and involved dealing with passport and visa inquiries.
There was an honorary Italian consul in Christchurch until about three years ago. Christchurch’s Italian community was asked to suggest someone who could take over the post, she said.
