Floral display raises $1250

A floral arts display held at the Horticultural Hall last evening raised a net $1250 for the Southland flood appeal. The display was attended by more than 300 people, each of whom paid $5 admission to go towards the appeal. Twenty-two exhibits from throughout New Zealand, some over 2m tall, were featured.

The evening was organised by the Floral Arts Society of New Zealand. The national publicity officer of the society, Mrs Mary Mackay, said it had organised the display to coincide with a national council meeting so that members throughout New Zealand could show their exhibits. She said interest in the show had been “phenomenal.”
