Novel way of raising funds
PA Nelson The Mayor of Nelson, Mr Peter Malone, will make his first parachute jump on Saturday to raise funds for the Southland Aero Club. The Invercargill club was wiped out by floodwaters last month. Salt water ruined all the aircraft and the hangers and clubrooms . were wrecked by the water that closed the airport.
The Nelson Parachute Club’s chief safety officer and instructor, Mr Wayne Spittai, said that Mr Malone had always wanted to parachute and the appeal provided an ideal opportunity to jump and raise money at the same time. Mr Malone will be given five hours of intensive training tomorrow evening and Saturday morning, before his jump at 10.30 a.m.
