Hide the Loot appeals at Riccarton today

By W. R. CARSTON If form from the Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting proves the best guide Hide the Loot and Auk Princess could represent Peter Jones’ Riccarton stable successfully at the Riccarton Turf Club’s oncourse totalisator meeting at Riccarton today. Hide the Loot, which is in the Amalgamated Packaging Handicap, made an encouraging start to his career when he chased Black Arrow and Secured Money home in the Oaklands Handicap on his home course last Wednesday.

Auk Princess looked to have the result of the Post Handicap last Wednesday in safe keeping when she spurted clear early in the run home but her condition gave out close to the end and she had to be content with fourth.

Only slight improvement would be needed today to give Auk Princess her first victory as a three-year-old in the United Building Society Handicap, second leg of the treble. The issue is wide open in the first leg of the treble, the Sydenham Timber Company Maiden, but if Lady Beebee comes up with one of her best front-running performances in the Godavari “1600” no-one will be surprised if victory goes her way in the third leg.

The Godavari “1600” is also the second leg of a concession double and the first leg of a “straight” double today. In spite of two lack-lustre runs at the C.J.C. summer meeting Aqua Flight could still be good enough to beat a moderate lot in the Sir Bart “2000,” first leg of the concession double. Peak runs from Chiasso and Ariage could see them battle it out for honours in the Grey Horse Handicap, second leg of the “straight” double. Beside the doubles and treble there will be trifecta and quinella betting on all races.
