Visit to China
Sir,—Cr Rex Arbuckle says that he is going to China to find out what is going on in that country. That is his privilege, but why should Christchurch ratepayers assist him in his travel costs and other incidental costs. Cr Arbuckle was not elected to travel overseas or to engage in activities that are not the functions of local government. During the last election Cr Arbuckle campaigned on the need to upgrade our roads and footpaths and to reduce unnecessary spending. Since his election, he has done nothing to assist in either of these activities, and somewhere along the way has got his priorities wrong. — Yours, etc., (Cr) A. G. JAMES. February 15, 1984.
