Veteran race results
Denis O’Keefe (Christchurch) and Pat Boland (Christchurch) won the veteran sections of the Collins Real Estate Boulder Bay Classic 16km running race on Waitangi Day. O’Keefe, in his final preparation for the Buller halfmarathon. ran the hilly course in 57min 42s for eighth place over all to retain the title he won last year in 57:21, which was a veteran record. Boland, aged 44, had a good win over the veteran women's titleholder. Colleen McKenzie (Olympic), though she could not match McKenzie’s time last year of 73:56, which is a record. Members of the Rovers club wore black armbands in the race in memory of a noted club member, Ray Ayrey, who died in Christchurch early on Waitangi Day. Ayrey was a prominent veteran runner and finished eighth in the veteran section of the Boulder Bay
