BHP jumps
NZPA Sydney Higher metal prices lifted leading miners in a more active day of trading on Australian share markets, yesterday. The all ordinaries index was ahead 9.5 at 776.8 with the all resources jumping 16 points to 586.3 and the all industrials firming 0.7 to 1016.6. BHP closed 40c higher at 1400 (Melbourne 1405) after
reporting its big interim profit rise and a one-for-nine share issue. Among the miners to rise were CRA bv 20c to 576, MIM 15c to 352, WMC 12c to 442, Bougainville 18c to 270 and Renison 10c to 385. Ez added 18c to 608. Gold stocks jumped with the physical price rise. Emperor rose 30c to 330, Poseidon 20c to 460 and Peko 24c to 584.
