Forecasts
Radio New Zealand plans some changes in the weather, beginning tomorrow. The New Zealand Meteorological Service has reappraised its resources and reorganised its weather forecasting procedures, and this has caused some changes to the daily schedule of weather forecasts on the National Programme. The all-districts forecast usually broadcast about 12.33 p.m. will be discontinued and replaced by a comprehensive but less detailed extended range forecast. This will give the weather situation and its relationship to the general weather conditions over New Zealand each day and for the following five days, and a forecast for the general type of
weather to be expected. The extended range forecast is aimed primarily at listeners who need to take weather conditions into account when planning activities several days in advance and require as much prior advice as possible of the likely occurrence of particular weather conditions.
The 4 p.m. all-districts forecast will be cancelled and replaced by a new bulletin broadcast daily at 4.55 p.m., providing a forecast of wind, weather and temperature for the following 24 to 36 hours, plus a general outlook for the following day for the whole country. The 5.05 p.m. bulletin giving the short forecast for all New Zealand will also be discontinued.
