Snap bearish trend slows
The snap bearish trend slowed in moderately busy trading on the national sharemarket yesterday, after the NZUC industrial index had lost more than 62 points in the previous two sessions. The index eased 0.56 points to close at 1346.64. However, a number of market leaders were still prominent in the falls, including Wattie, down 50c to 465 after Brierley had withdrawn from the market. Fletcher Challenge lost 28c, Ra Ora Stud 45c, and Progressive Enterprises 25c. Among the rises, John Webster rose 20c to 235 after announcing a bonus issue and prospects of an improved result for its financial year. United Publishing gained 40c to 460 c, as newspaper issues continued to firm. NZ Forest Products recovered 4c to 460 ahead of going ex bonus today.
