Toffee apples

What you need 2 cups sugar % cup water 1 tbs vinegar red food-colouring (optional) some small, red apples suitable sticks, such as iceblock sticks What you do:

1. Put the sugar, water, vinegar and food colouring into a big saucepan and stir. 2. Bring mixture to the boil, and boil it for 20 minutes without stirring it any more. 3. While it is boiling, wash apples and sticks and push sticks well into apples.

4. Grease a flat dish or plate with a little butter. 5. When toffee has boiled for the 20 minutes, dip the apples quickly into the toffee, coating them all over, then put them into cold water for a few seconds. 6. Stand your toffee apples (with sticks pointing up) on the dish or plate until the toffee is set.
