‘Oldest spy’ dies

NZPA-AAP London The man who was dubbed Britain’s oldest spy has died in London at the age of 86, only two years after retiring from the Foreign Office. Lieutenant - Colonel Edward Boxshall was a wartime officer in the Special Operations Execu-

tive. He was employed until he was 84, as an adviser to the Foreign Office on how much should be made public about the activities of the S.O.E. His existence at the Foreign Office was disclosed in 1979. It was said that despite his age Colonel Boxshall

continued to fulfil his duties entirely satisfactorily, the “Daily Telegraph” reports. • Colonel Boxshall served in Intelligence during the 1914-18 war, and from 19211939 represented British firms in Rumania, where his father had been British Consul.
