S.I. schools cricket
Four Canterbury players have been included in the South Island primary schoolboys cricket tournament team, which ended at Westport yesterday. That representation backs up the over-all success of the team, which won the United Building Society Cup after the final round of matches yesterday. North Canterbury won the Eastern Southland fielding trophy. The team is: Chris Cairns (captain), Richard Graham, Nicholas Greenwood and Craig Lawson (Canterbury), Andrew Haglund (Nelson), Steven Mclvor (Central Otago), Dayle MacMillan (West Coast), Scott McHardy and Simon Wilson (Marlborough), Ricky Tuuta (North Canterbury), Peter Rudduck and Corey Martin (North Otago). Scores.— Canterbury 140/2 (C. Greenwood 52 not out, C. Lawson 42, D. Lainchbury 42) beat South Canterbury 55 (A. Clarke 2/7, C. Cairns 5/23, R. Graham 3/9). North Canterbury 143/7 dec.
(P. Dickson 29, M. Milne 30, J. Miles 28 not out; K. Hamilton 3/32) beat Southland 82 (J. Sharp 17; B. Casey 2/12, H. Henderson 3/29, B. Vickery 1/ 12). Eastern Southland 58 (M. Stevens 19; S. Edwards 3/13, C. Hunt 3/12) and 59/6 lost to Marlborough 64/3. Central Otago 148/7 (A. Parks 56, C. Turnbull 38; C. Rankin 3/41) beat West Coast 82 (Rankin 18; S. Mclvor 7/20). Otago 139/7 (S. Lyall 61, K. Davidson 41; J. Stagg 2/10) beat Ashburton 27 (Davidson 3/ 1, E. Vaafusuago 5/13) and 45 (A. Fleming 24). Tasman 134 (S. Saunders 27, D. Wilkins 23; P. Elliott 7/47) drew with Buller 80/4 (T. Pratt 34 not out; J. Heggins 3/39). Nelson 85/6 (C. Martin 3/19) drew with North Otago 136 (P. Rudduck 61; W. Barnett 5/17).
